General info

1953 was a disastrous year. This year begins in the same way. I haven't been able to find out what happened yet but the fact is that on February 28th everything will be confiscated by a bailiff. :!: See preventive confiscation. So the produced Christmas decorations will not come on the market. Alfred has a hard time again and loses a lot of money and has to look for work urgently. The company JEZELIN-KLOTZ adds itself to the list of problems he has to deal with.

Daily life

Alfred had a hard life. He was busy with 1001 things at a time every day:

  • Applying for a residence permit for Germany. Without a permit he can't do anything here. :!: See residence permit.
  • Investigate the market in Germany or elsewhere about the possibilities to start again with a glassworks to make raw glass and Christmas decorations. For this he makes numerous trips in Germany.
  • Placing advertisements in newspapers and magazines
    • to look for work and go back to work under a boss. :!: See job offer.
    • to take over an existing glassworks. :!: See acquisitions.
    • to look for investment opportunities. :!: See investments.
  • Tackling the after-effects of AJEKO (now almost done), Gremoglass, Jezelin-Klotz.
  • The breakup with his wife. Wilhelmina writes to her sisters and to Fritz Jochmann sr. asking them not to tell Alfred anything. Fritz answers very honestly and says that he informs Alfred of what he answers to her. He doesn't take a position and says that he owes a lot to them when he was on the run from the Russians with his 4 children. He is very sorry that there is a split but doesn't want to take any side (which is also logical). However, Wilhelmina's sisters give him the letters she sends. This way he knows where she lives now because his last letter that he had sent by registered mail was returned with the message that the addressee had left without leaving an address. In the letters to her sisters she writes that she had met Louis Van den Bulk on March 5. A widower who works in the docks as a 'conterbaas' (foreman). The term comes from the french contremaitre and is a literal translation. On 14 April she moves in with him in Deurne Cogelsplein 26. With him she lives a calm and quiet happy life and maybe also without a fortuneteller. With what Louis earns she can live well but not rich as with Alfred. The tension between her and Alfred humbles away. Alfred no longer understands anything about it. In his letters to friends or just loose notes he mentions the people who conspired against him with his wife and what he went through with her. The story of the tarot sorceress emerges of which he knew nothing. :!: See jealousy.
