Alfred has been launched, but he is doing his best to keep the size of his business under control and still earn a little money. He is no longer one of the youngest and feels that too. He makes sure that the ovens are kept at the right temperature, the cooling ovens are at the right temperature in the morning so that his workmen can get to work immediately. In a letter to a customer, he clearly states this. With this, we learn that he employs 2 workers.

Schnichels is a regular customer which provides him with a basis of job security. He also works for other clients such as Jola, for whom he used to work before embarking on his foreign adventure. At a certain point, Schnichels proposes to work together. However, he did not accept. He has had bad experiences with this kind of business in the past. Alfred perseveres and tries to reach his retirement age unscathed. :!: See cooperation concept.
