You might get the impression that Alfred is a bully in his letters to Schnichels. Normally, he does not act like this, but when he is wronged, he fights like the devil in hell. Another picture is painted in a letter of thanks from a Dutchman he has helped, for whom he wants nothing in return. It's not always doom and gloom. :!: See De Wolf.

Health

Alfred gradually began to suffer from all sorts of ailments, especially stomach and lung problems.

Customers

The glass factory was still operating, but Alfred had problems finding suitable craftsmen. Absences due to illness also became more common, both for himself and for Frau Schünzel. In addition to his main client Schnichels, he continues to make glass for other clients such as GVD. :!: See GVD. Things go from bad to worse with Schnichels. It is unbelievable what they say to each other and yet they continue to order and pay promptly. I cannot understand this with my common sense. Schnichels tries to put extreme pressure on Alfred to sell his glassworks. When this fails, they write to him to inform him that they are going to look at another interested glassmaker. Alfred remains stubborn and lets them know that they can stop ordering. He has enough customers, he says. :!: See Schnichels. Next year, the orders continue, but at the pace and in the quantities that Alfred can manage. Only with Schnichels is it always war, with his other customers everything goes smoothly.
