Operating licence

On 10 April, he quit. In his letter to Schieche, he reported that he was still working for four customers and that three of them were bad payers. With one of them, he had to be patient for 5 months and take legal action. There are no craftsmen left. Fuel oil is becoming so expensive that he is forced to switch to gas. The prices of chemicals needed to give colour to the glass, among other things, are skyrocketing. He tells the whole story and then says to Schieche that if you want, I will open my glassworks again and only work for you. This happened three months later on 10 August. :!: See licence.

The roof of the glassworks had to be repaired and it cost him a lot of money. :!: See roof. He still picks out the newspapers and sometimes puts an announcement in them himself.

.

When he receives a card from Otto Stolle, he responds and is able to tell his story about how difficult it is to work properly at the moment. :!: See Stolle

Death of brother-in-law

On 3 September his sister's husband dies in Eindhoven. Whether he was able to attend the funeral is not clear from his records. Of course, it is not easy to shut down a glass oven just like that. :!: See brother-in-law.

Health

His health looks a bit better, but he still has problems with his nose and throat. He is prescribed an ointment for that. :!: See prescription.

Jochmann

Loni, a daughter of Fritz Sr, regularly sends a card to Alfred and pays him a visit. The bond that was formed after WWII is strong. She continued to visit him until it was no longer possible and he had become completely paranoid. :!: See Loni.

Customers

In the beginning of the year Alfred worked for several clients until he decided to close the shop in April. :!: See customers. In the end, there is only one client left for whom he wants to work, namely Schieche. He starts up his business again. :!: See Schieche. Blumenau is apparently in the pocket because Alfred goes in search of a specific recipe for opal glass. In the letter, he mentions that he will melt glass himself in Brazil. :!: See Blumenau.
